How is a Cell Group different that a Sunday School or Bible Study class? The difference between Sunday school or Bible study classes and Cell Groups is their function and their form. The function of a good Sunday school class or Bible study group is to . . . study and learn the Bible. The function of a Cell Group is to experience Christ; as they live out Jesus' commands. Bible study groups usually meet to study the Scripture. They discuss Scripture and how it applies to their lives, they meet in a church building/classroom, and that are usually divided by age. A Cell Group can meet in a home, an office, a park, anywhere. A Cell Group meets to experience the presence of Christ, they can be intergenerational or age-graded, and they seek to apply Scripture to their lives as they hold each other accountable, fellowship, study the Word, disciple one another, and share Christ with the lost around them. Cell Groups focus on the same four aspects that the church focuses on - Worship, Ministry, Evangelism, and Discipleship. Cell Groups are designed to take the place of a Sunday school or Bible study class, an outreach group like F.A.I.T.H. or G.R.O.W., a discipleship group, accountability group, and/or a fellowship group. So, while Sunday school and Bible study classes are very good at teaching scriptural knowledge, Cell Groups excel at creating an atmosphere where believers can apply their faith in real world settings, with aid of other believers.
